As I sit here in Jerusalem,an Oleh Chadash having been in the country 2.5 years now, its really hard to directly connect to what is going on.
Its not that i am not trying, Its not that the news is not on every hour, nor that i dont read the papers, but ... its just very hard.
I have never served in the army, the most I do is help with the police, which the last time I did, the most we did was set up a traffic checkpoint. I dont trivialise my involvement with the police, and I joined it for many different reasons, but none of them help me to connect to the country in this hard time.
I have, thankfully, not known personally anyone who has been injured, or worse, killed in the fighting up north. A lot of my friends and colleagues are waiting for their "Tzav 8" to go up north to fight, this is not something I will do.
I have an uncle and other family up north, and I do worry about them, but its still different. Its not
my life being directly affected in the same way as those who live in the north they try to carry on their life in Haifa and the north.
I cant tell if I am being selfish, but its odd to feel detached.
I want to feel more attached.
I wanted for so long to come here and be part of Israel, but I can't help but feeling on the sidelines.
The world has its politics and its views. It does not help when the first reaction is over-reaction and lies.
Even today, the Lebanese prime minister was condemning israel for bombing a building and killing over 40 people, when later on he retracted when they found out we killed 1 person and the other 40 were alive and well in underground shelters.
""The massacre in Houla, it turned out that there was one person killed," Siniora told reporters. "They thought that the whole building smashed on the heads of about 40 people... thank God they have been saved"
Even the "respectable" agencies are stirring.
On Saturday Reuters filed a story, along with a photo which had blantantly been manipulated.
They later removed it and "apologised"

Its a hard time for Israel right now. It needs your help, your prayers, your support.
It does need you to pay attention. It needs you to remember why we are here.
As the weeks Parsha says " its a land of milk and honey", and its important to remember why we are here.
